Sowakan: Tuesday Class

We got a visit from sifu taylor tonight. This was a happy surprise for all of us! We focused on movement, and some flowing sinewali practice. Then we moved into the play of enter, pass, blend with open hand and with weapon.

I found some of the cuts quite challenging, especially at first. The stick would be moving nicely, then my brain would get caught up on the angle of attack, or how i was holding it, and stop dead. After a bit of practice it started to flow a bit better. I also found at certain times the attacks on shite were more with the hand, than with the stick. That might have been due to shite entering in properly. I’m not quite sure, will have to practice a bit.

We also did some pushing/lance practice that was quite interesting. It is quite amazing the amount of power you can generate with the lance, considering you aren’t moving forward all that much at all.

It was quite a large class for us. This always adds to the great energy.

Thanks sifu taylor!
